Maradona’s sentence
reduced 
An Argentine appeals court on Tuesday reduced the length of a suspended
jail sentence for soccer star Diego Mardona to two years and 10 months
for shooting an air rifle in 1994. Meridian’s lawyer launched an
immediate appeal against the conviction when it was handed out last June.
The court absolved Mardona on Tuesday of aggravated threats but upheld
the ruling of damage, aggression, light injuries and harm.

One stabbed, 20 injured:
A Fiorentina fan was stabbed in the stomach and 20 others were injured in clashes between rival supporters after a Serie A match against lazio in Florence, Italy on Saturday. A day which started with police charges at Rome’s main railway station, and continued with one carriage of a train carry Lazio fans being set alight, ended with further violence after the match. The Fiorentina supporter was apparently attacked by Lazio fans in a street near the stadium shortly after the match ended 1-1. He was rushed to hospital and underwent surgery, ANSA news agency reported. Another 20 people needed treatment for minor injuries after bottles, and stones and other stuff were thrown by rival fans, while police used tear gas and repeated charges to separate the two factions. Wenger sets sight
on new Arsenal players
BANGKOK, May 21,: Arsenal manger Arsene Wenger said on Friday he had
already identified the key players for all positions if Arsenal, runners-up
in the English premiere league to Manchester United this season after winning
the championship last year, were to compete effectively at home and in
Europe next season. “We will try to get three players to get the
required number for next year because of the very hectic schedule,” he
told a news conference while preparing for a friendly match against Thailand.
“If you ask me 'where' I would say everywhere - at the back in midfield
and at front,” he said. Wenger said the new format of the Champions
league next season ,which could involve as many as 17 matches, several
of which are played successive weeks, would impose huge pressures.
“We need the numbers everywhere. When you look at the schedules and
fixtures next season of the champions league, you play every week of three
week’s, you have one week rest and you play every week again for three
weeks.
